Seeking God's Guidance, Strengthening His Mission

Pastoral Letter, 30 October 2026

Dear Church Family,

This week, church leaders from across our territory have been gathering to seek God's guidance, strengthen one another, and reflect on the mission before us. While I was able to briefly attend the South England Conference Ministerial Council taking place this week in Daventry, Northamptonshire, I have also been engaged in a week of intensive meetings in Montenegro with colleagues from across the Trans-European Division (TED).

Both gatherings have provided valuable opportunities for spiritual reflection, learning, fellowship, and renewal. In the midst of the many responsibilities associated with ministry and leadership, it is important to create intentional space to listen for God's voice, deepen our relationship with Him, and consider how we can more effectively serve His church and fulfil His mission.

Although these meetings are organised primarily for those serving in employed ministry positions, the themes being explored have relevance for every member of God's church. Scripture reminds us that we are a "royal priesthood" (1 Peter 2:9), called to serve Christ in different ways but united in one mission. Whether we serve from the pulpit, in local church leadership, within our families, or in our communities, we all share the privilege and responsibility of representing Jesus to the world around us.

At the South England Conference Ministerial Council, ministers have been benefiting from presentations by our three invited guest speakers: Dr Aleksandar Santrac, Pastor Royston Philbert, and Dr Mark Braithwaite. Throughout the week, they have been leading discussions on spiritual growth, leadership, pastoral wellbeing, family life, mental and emotional health, discipleship, and the importance of maintaining a vibrant and authentic relationship with Christ while serving others.

A recurring theme has been the understanding that effective ministry flows from a healthy spiritual life. Before we can effectively bless others, we must first allow God to continue His transforming work within us. Christian service is not merely about activity or responsibility; it is about daily surrender to Christ and permitting the Holy Spirit to shape our character, renew our minds, and strengthen our witness.

There has also been a strong emphasis on the importance of family and healthy relationships. In a world that places increasing demands on our time and attention, it is vital that we nurture our relationships at home, care for our own wellbeing, and create environments where faith can flourish from one generation to the next. Healthy churches are strengthened by healthy families, and healthy families are built upon a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Meanwhile, the meetings in Montenegro have provided a valuable opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from across the Trans-European Division. Together we have been sharing experiences, discussing opportunities and challenges facing the church throughout our diverse territory, praying together, and seeking God's wisdom as we plan for the future. These conversations have been a reminder of both the diversity and unity of God's worldwide church and the importance of working together in advancing His mission.

As these meetings continue, I invite you to join me in praying for our ministers, church leaders, local churches, members, and families. Please pray that God will continue to grant wisdom, courage, humility, and spiritual strength to all who serve Him. Let us also pray that each of us, wherever God has placed us, will remain open to His leading and committed to His purpose.

“We will go, we will go
Where God Leads, we will go
We will follow Christ, and spread His love
We will go where our Saviour leads.”

May God bless you all.
