A New Home for a Growing Mission
Pastoral Letter, 24 July 2026
“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.” (Psalm 127:1)
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
All through Scripture, buildings were never special just because they were made of stone or wood; they were special because of the God-given mission that happened in and through them. From the tabernacle in the wilderness, to Solomon’s Temple, to the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls under Nehemiah, God’s people understood that physical spaces are gifts from God to serve spiritual purposes.
With that same conviction, the South England Conference has taken a step of faith in acquiring ACI House at 55 Clarendon Road as our new headquarters. This is more than a change of address; it is part of how God is preparing us to serve a growing field and a growing mission.
For three quarters of a century, 25 St Johns Road has been a spiritual “home base” for our Conference family. Through its doors have passed pastors, departmental leaders, church officers, employees, and members with a desire to share Jesus. From this building, decisions have been made, ministries launched, churches supported, and many lives touched by the gospel. We praise God for the blessings He has poured out through this place, and we honour the faithfulness of all who have laboured here.
As our Conference has grown, it has become clear that our current headquarters can no longer fully serve the needs of a rapidly expanding mission. Our office developed out of one residential property, with two neighbouring houses later acquired and adapted to accommodate our entire operation. Consequently, we now face limitations in accessibility, office meeting space, community collaboration areas, storage, and room for future growth. These practical constraints affect how well we can support pastors, leaders, and churches across the South England Conference.
The acquisition of a new office base has not been rushed or taken lightly. For more than twenty years, successive administrations have prayed, consulted, and explored many options, including remaining and redeveloping, or moving to a different site. After careful assessment, professional guidance, and a thorough governance review, 55 Clarendon Road emerged as the location that best supports the long-term mission of the South England Conference.
One of our strategic aims is “Integrating our Operations”, bringing departments, ministries, systems, and resources into closer partnership for the sake of local churches and communities. 55 Clarendon Road will allow ministry teams to collaborate more effectively, communicate more clearly, and provide better training and support for pastors, leaders, and members.
The new headquarters will also help us “Grow Our Presence”, “Deepen Our Connections”, and “Impact Our Communities” by offering flexible spaces for leadership development, ministry and evangelism training, community-focused initiatives, and shared planning. We see it as a place where ideas can be prayed over, plans can be shaped, and disciples can be equipped to serve.
Even so, we remember a building is only a tool. Our true mission remains the same: “Christ in our hearts, Christ in our homes, Christ in our churches, and Christ on our streets.” We believe 55 Clarendon Road will help us carry that mission further and more faithfully, but the centre of it all is still Jesus and His calling on each of our lives.
As we begin this new chapter, we invite you to journey with us in prayer and faith. Let us ask the Lord to “build the house”, shape our plans, our attitudes, our relationships, and our witness. May every room in 55 Clarendon Road, and every decision made there, be dedicated to His glory and the advancement of His work in our Conference.
