Gospel in the Park Unites High Wycombe in Celebration of Faith, Music and Community
Hundreds of people from across High Wycombe came together on Sunday 26 July for Gospel in the Park – Worship Without Walls, a vibrant community event held at The Rye that celebrated faith, music, health, and unity.
Organised jointly by Wycombe Community Seventh-day Adventist Church and Hope Community Seventh-day Adventist Church, the free family event welcomed people of all ages and backgrounds for an afternoon of live gospel music, children’s entertainment, free health checks, community stalls, and activities designed to bring the community together.
The celebrations began with a colourful Pathfinder parade, as young people from the Seventh-day Adventist Pathfinders marched through High Wycombe town centre from the High Street to The Rye. Accompanied by music and supported by Thames Valley Police, the parade attracted the attention of shoppers and visitors before arriving at The Rye to officially commence the day’s celebrations. The procession symbolised service, leadership, discipline, and the churches’ commitment to engaging positively with the wider community.
The event was officially opened by Councillor Imran Hussain, Mayor of High Wycombe, whose inspiring remarks highlighted the importance of community partnership, inclusion, and working together to build a stronger and more connected town.
Among the distinguished guests in attendance were His Excellency Mr J. M. Brereton Horne, High Commissioner for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the UK, accompanied by Mrs Andrea Horne. The High Commissioner spoke warmly about the importance of communities working together across cultures and backgrounds, and his presence was greatly appreciated by all who attended.
The event was also honoured by the attendance and support of Pastor Dr Kirk Thomas, President of the British Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists; Pastor Kwesi Moore, President of the South England Conference; Pastor Ian Sweeney, Field Secretary and Director of Public Affairs & Religious Liberty for the Trans-European Division; Pastor Rodolfo Portes, District Pastor; and Pastor Sam Ngui, District Pastor, all of whom demonstrated their commitment to supporting community engagement and outreach.
Throughout the afternoon, visitors enjoyed outstanding performances from a number of gospel artists, choirs, and musicians, creating an atmosphere of joy, hope, and celebration. Families were also able to enjoy children’s rides, kiddies karts, community stalls, and a wide range of activities that made the event welcoming and inclusive for everyone.
A major highlight of the day was the free Health Ministries area, where visitors received health checks and wellbeing advice from a dedicated team of healthcare professionals and volunteers. Community organisations and charities were also represented, providing valuable information and support to those attending.
The organisers expressed their sincere appreciation to the many organisations that helped make the event possible, including Buckinghamshire Council, Thames Valley Police, Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service, the EMAT medical team, community organisations, performers, volunteers, sponsors, and local businesses whose partnership ensured the day ran safely and successfully.

“Our vision was simple—to take the Gospel beyond the walls of the church and into the heart of our community. Seeing so many people from different cultures, backgrounds, and generations enjoying the day together was truly inspiring. We are incredibly grateful to every volunteer, performer, emergency service, community organisation, and supporter who helped make this event such a tremendous success. This was a real demonstration of what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared purpose.”
