Pastoral Letter, 25 September 2026
Dear SEC Family,
As we reflect on our life’s journey, I am sure that, like me, you can recall many examples demonstrating the unchanging truth that God is an awesome God. I know that He has done great things for each of us. When we thank God for what He has done, it is also important to praise Him for who He is. These two elements are inseparable. We come to know God's character, His faithfulness, and His love more deeply as we remember the way He has led us throughout our lives.
Remembering God’s goodness deepens our gratitude, enhances our appreciation of His care, and ultimately draws us closer to Jesus Christ. It reminds us that even when we do not fully understand our circumstances, God is still leading and guiding according to His purpose, causing all things to work together for good (Romans 8:28). As you think about your own journey of faith, perhaps you can identify moments when God's hand was at work, shaping your life and bringing you to where you are today.
I sometimes recall my personal experience, as a youth, when I traversed the streets of my home village, Buxton, on the East Coast of Demerara, Guyana. God, in His goodness and His love, plucked me out of my circumstances and brought me here to the UK to serve in ministry. Although the choices I was making at the time meant that when they looked at me, many people would have written me off, God saw the future He had planned because He had already decided that this same young man was someone He would use to share the gospel one day. What an encouragement it is to remember that God knows each of us intimately. He sees not only where we are today, but also the purpose He has prepared for our lives and the ways in which He desires us to serve Him.
Earlier this month, OneVoice27 was officially launched across our Conference territory. As we reflect on God's goodness, both throughout history and in our personal experience, how can we remain silent? OneVoice27 provides an excellent opportunity for each of us to respond to God's grace by sharing His love with others and participating in a global movement of witness and evangelism. As we approach the commemoration of two thousand years since the baptism and commencement of Christ's earthly ministry, we have the privilege of joining together as one people, united in our desire to lift up Jesus.
OneVoice27 calls for total member involvement as we use both our church and personal platforms to testify of Christ with one voice. However, we must remember that the effectiveness of our witness depends not on the volume of our activity, but on the depth of our relationship with Him. OneVoice27 should not be viewed merely as another public campaign. Rather, it should be the natural expression of a people whose hearts have been renewed by Christ and who are sharing Him authentically in their daily lives. Genuine witness flows from genuine revival.
My prayer is that, as we reflect on the goodness of the Good Shepherd and His faithful care throughout our lives, we will be moved to share what He has done for us. Public service and witness are most meaningful when they arise from a heart filled with gratitude and a personal experience with Jesus. When Christ truly dwells within us, sharing His love becomes a joyful and natural response.
Please continue praying for at least one person during this phase of the OneVoice journey focusing on personal dedication. As we place individuals before God in prayer, we trust Him to open hearts and lead precious souls into the safety of His fold. Those who truly know the Shepherd naturally desire others to know Him too.
