Inspired for Mission: An Invitation to SEC Camp Meeting
Pastoral Letter, 31 July 2026
Dear Church Family,
Since the earliest days of the Advent movement, Camp Meetings have been venues of spiritual renewal, fellowship, discipleship, and evangelism. The first official Seventh-day Adventist Camp Meeting in 1868 was organised with two clear objectives: to strengthen believers spiritually and to share the Advent message with the wider community. Those same purposes remain just as relevant today.
In Testimonies for the Church vol. 6, p. 31, Ellen White described Camp Meeting as "one of the most important agencies in our work," helping both to promote spiritual life among God's people and to reach others with the gospel. For many generations, Camp Meeting has united believers, strengthened faith, inspired service, and provided opportunities for people to encounter Jesus in meaningful ways.
However, God has not called His church purely to preserve traditions or maintain structures. He calls us to be a movement of hope, a people commissioned to reveal Christ's love and carry His gospel to every community. In Acts 1:8, the disciples received power from the Holy Spirit so that they could become active witnesses to the world. In Revelation 14, the three angels' messages are carried with urgency, clarity, and purpose. These passages emphasise that our calling is not simply to gather, but to go; not just to receive, but to share.
This conviction is encapsulated in our Conference strategy, and the theme for this year’s Camp Meeting: Inspired for Mission. Through revival, prayer, and Bible-centred preaching, we seek to experience Christ in Our Hearts. Practical seminars and family-focused ministries will nurture Christ in Our Homes. Collective worship, and fellowship help us celebrate Christ in Our Churches. And inspiring presentations and mission-focused workshops will equip us to take Christ to Our Streets, sharing the hope of Jesus with our communities. My prayer is that every service, conversation, and encounter will draw us closer to Christ and prepare us for greater service in His kingdom.
This newsletter will be taking a summer hiatus throughout August, so this is my final opportunity before Camp Meeting to warmly invite you, your family, your friends, and your neighbours to join us on the Newbold College campus from 26-29 August.
As we prepare to gather together, may we come with open hearts, expecting God to work in powerful ways among us. Let us pray for revival, for unity, and for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit as we continue to embrace our prophetic calling and mission.
