Hackney’s Community Ministries minister to the homeless at The Strand
Last Sunday, 27th October 2024, members of the Hackney Community Ministries department ministered to the homeless at The Strand in Central London. We go out and feed the homeless once every month at The Strand.
Among the volunteers in our team is 82-year-old Sister Emelda Greer and our current oldest serving volunteer and a founding member of Hackney SDA Church, Sister Ann Williams, who, at 94 years old, is not only a physically, mentally, and spiritually active member of the team but is also one of our most amazing and longest-serving chefs. She often cooks up a storm each month in preparation for our outreach to the homeless, as well as regularly providing meals for our church community, friends, and family each Sabbath. They were very able women who took part in much of the activities on the day, which just goes to show that age is no barrier to those desiring to serve the needs of the community.
Some of the activities our team undertakes include sorting through clothes, helping to prepare food, and packing bags for individuals upon arrival. We also serve hot meals and provide clothes, trainers, sleeping bags, and toiletries to the homeless, who are very appreciative and receptive to the ministry God, through His Spirit, has placed on each of our hearts to give.
