Communicating Christ Beyond Words

Hackney SDA Church Communications and Media Day

Hackney SDA Church held its Communications and Media Day on Sabbath 3rd October 2026 with Guest Speaker and former British Union Conference (BUC) Communications and Media Director, Pastor Sam Davies.

The special item by Sister Lukaki was heartfelt as she sung Alabaster Box – a song which portrays the actions of one (Mary Magdalene) who expressed an outpouring of love on Christ moments before his crucifixion which truly went beyond words.

In his message entitled: Communicating Christ Beyond Words, Pastor Sam Davies, reflecting on the passage in 2nd Corinthians 3:2-3, reminded the church that they are living epistles (letters) representing Christ to everyone and that their lives should communicate that they belong to Christ with a good news message of salvation in Christ to share with all they meet.

The afternoon session offered some practical ways in which the church presence could become more visible. These included building good relationships with the community, local MP’s and the local press and working together with these groups to generate community-based stories which could then be highlighted in newspapers and/or broadcast on digital media platforms all to the glory of God.

Pastor Sam Davies reminded attendees of the importance of letting your light shine so that all men may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven (see Matthew 5:16). An example of this was a church (Tottenham Lighthouse SDA Church) which met the needs of its community during the cost-of-living crisis with free bags of food along with a monetary donation of £40 per person from a total of £10,000 raised by members of the church for the purposes of those mentioned. This unheard-of initiative attracted media interest with both the BUC and national news broadcaster, ITV News featuring the story on its news platforms.
