SEC Camp Meeting 2026 Finale: From Inspiration to Action
The South England Conference (SEC) Camp Meeting 2026 concluded on Sabbath, 29 August at Newbold College, with a final day of worship, discussion and mission that brought the four-day gathering back to its central theme: Inspired for Mission.
During Morning Renewal, Dr Marleena Debrough, Director of Women’s Ministries and Prayer Ministries for the Allegheny East Conference, turned to Acts 4 and the boldness of Peter and John, challenging members to recognise the source of power behind effective Christian witness.
“I am amazed how we try to do the works of Jesus without the Spirit of Jesus,” she said. “How dare we try to do the works of Jesus without Jesus?” Debrough stressed the importance of prayer, daily dependence on the Holy Spirit and sharing with others what God has done.
Sabbath School, led by the Croydon Sabbath School Team, took the form of an interactive panel discussion hosted by BBC presenter Neil Nunes. The panel, which included Newbold College Principal Dr Dan Serb, explored questions around love-driven ministry, discipline, repentance, trust and compassion, with contributions from those in the gym hall and the online audience.
A dedicated Inspired for Mission segment highlighted several examples of evangelism and outreach taking place across the Conference. Among them, Pastor Tremon Jackson shared how Bedford Central Seventh-day Adventist Church had made evangelism intentional, adopting ‘Preparing to Meet Jesus’ as its theme and committing a third of its annual budget to evangelism.
Jackson encouraged churches to “be intentional”, make a plan and “stick to the plan regardless of opposition.” The church’s sustained focus on evangelism had resulted in so many baptisms that Jackson remarked they had “lost count” of the number.
Following an energetic contribution from the Reading West Drum Corps, Pastor John Bradshaw, President of It Is Written, delivered his final Camp Meeting message. Reflecting on the mission testimonies shared during the day, Bradshaw declared that “mission is alive and well here in the SEC.”
Drawing from the paralytic brought to Jesus by four friends and the parable of the lost sheep, Bradshaw focused on why evangelism matters. “We can’t be inspired for mission until we start to understand that the loss of a single person is a tragedy,” he said, emphasising that mission is not simply about reaching crowds, but recognising the value of each individual.
He illustrated the point through the testimony of a couple struggling with homelessness and drug addiction who were invited to an evangelistic series. Welcomed by the church, they eventually became clean and sober, married and were baptised. Their desire afterwards was to share Jesus with others so “He can do for them what He has done for us.”
The afternoon brought the emphasis on equipping people for mission into the SEC School of Evangelism, Mission and Leadership graduation, where 81 certificates were awarded across nine cohorts. SEC President Pastor Kwesi Moore delivered the charge to the graduates and later commissioned them in prayer to go out inspired “to touch and transform the lives of men and women.”
As Camp Meeting 2026 drew to a close, Moore’s commissioning captured the challenge of the four days: to move from being inspired for mission to being equipped and ready to take part in it.
