SEC Area 8 Media Training Equips Churches with Technical Skills for Digital Outreach in Cambridge

Cambridge Seventh-day Adventist Church hosted the SEC Area 8 ‘How to Innovate Your Church’ training on November 10, 2024. Sessions led by Dr. Sorin Petrof, Don Roberts, and Stefan Stanciu covered storytelling, website management, and audiovisual production, equipping church media teams with practical tools for effective outreach and engagement.

Cambridge Seventh-day Adventist Church hosted a South England Conference Area 8 Communication & Media Training Day on November 10th, 2024. Themed “How to Innovate Your Church,” the event provided local church media teams with targeted training on storytelling, digital presence, and audiovisual production. Designed to be practical and focused, the training aimed to equip Area 8 church teams with tools to strengthen their outreach.

Pastor Anthony Opoku-Mensah opened the day with prayer and welcoming remarks, encouraging attendees to embrace innovation in ministry to further connect with their local community. The first session, led by Dr. Sorin Petrof, focused on Creative Writing and Storytelling. Dr. Petrof shared techniques for crafting compelling narratives that reflect each church’s mission, highlighting the power of storytelling to build meaningful connections. He provided guidance on structuring stories and using authentic voices in church communications.

Don Roberts then led a session on Website Management introducing the soon-to-be-launched Zafir website platform, available to churches for approximately £17 annually. Roberts demonstrated how a well-structured, mission-driven website can serve as a powerful ministry tool and community hub. Attendees were highly engaged, asking questions about the platform’s features and discussing how to align their web content with their church’s outreach goals.

In the final session, Stefan Stanciu provided a workshop on Audio and Video Production for Worship. Covering both audio and video aspects, Stanciu offered guidance on achieving high-quality sound through audio mixing, balancing sound levels, and minimising feedback. He also covered essentials for video production, including camera placement, lighting, and streaming setup, enabling churches to enhance both in-person and online worship experiences.

After the sessions, attendees gathered for lunch, where they continued their discussions and exchanged insights from the morning’s training. This informal setting provided a fitting conclusion to the day, allowing participants to further explore workshop topics, share ideas, network, and inspire one another.
