London, 10 November 2024 – UCY hosted its inaugural Education and Career Day at Balham SDA Church, attracting a vibrant gathering of children, youth, parents, and young professionals eager to explore educational and career opportunities. The day was a resounding success, featuring a line-up of esteemed exhibitors, insightful workshops, a powerful panel discussion, and an inspirational keynote that left a lasting impact on all who attended.
The event included an impressive array of exhibitors, such as Carmel Greystone, Stanborough Press, and Newbold College, offering invaluable resources and insights into a wide range of industries. Author Dahlia Allen captivated attendees by signing copies of her new book, while B Empowered A1, Leicala Natural Products, Missing Link Tuition, All Things Jamaican, The Voice, Kirly Sue's Kitchen, Adventist Credit Union, Full Circle Economics, and The Cute and the Curious engaged with visitors, providing everything from educational advice to business insights.
Workshops covered diverse topics relevant to young people and their parents, including educational pathways, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial skills. Presenters such as Layne Robinson, Claudia Welsh, Mark Grey, Barbara McLaughlin, Susanne Kirlew, and Rowlando Morgan shared their expertise, making each session both informative and inspiring. The panel discussion, led by Astor Tate, Kaydean Green, and Christopher Roberts, and moderated by the charismatic Paul Edwards, engaged the audience with thought-provoking dialogue on career development and life skills.
One of the event’s highlights was the keynote address by Mark De-Lisser, a celebrated vocal coach and TV presenter, known for his work on The Voice UK and The Masked Singer. Mark’s inspiring speech encouraged attendees to pursue their dreams with confidence, sparking a wave of motivation and enthusiasm among the audience.
To conclude the day on a high note, Mark De-Lisser led a special musical performance. A unique choir, composed of both children and adults, performed a song that Mark had worked on with the group during the event. The powerful, uplifting song filled the room with a sense of unity and purpose, leaving attendees in high spirits and eager for future UCY events.
“We couldn’t be happier with the turnout and the positive impact of today’s event,” said UCY’s Director, Craige Young. “Thank you to everyone who contributed—the exhibitors, volunteers, presenters, and especially Luperia’s Catering, who kept everyone energised with delicious food.”
The UCY team has already begun preparations for next year’s event, scheduled for September, which promises to be even bigger and better.
