SEC Prison Ministries Celebrates Growth and Prepares for Training Convention

Lives Transformed

Prison ministry lies at the heart of Christ’s mission—a call to bring light into places of darkness, hope to the broken, and dignity to those society often forgets. Over recent months, we have witnessed God’s hand powerfully at work as the South England Conference (SEC) Prison Ministries experiences unprecedented growth. Volunteers, pastors, and partnering organisations are uniting to answer Jesus’ call in Matthew 25:36.

This ministry is not merely a programme but a movement of compassion. Through open doors, answered prayers, and our church family’s generosity, we see lives transformed—inside prison walls and within the hearts of those who serve. Today, we rejoice in sharing these updates, celebrating God’s faithfulness, and inviting you to join us in this sacred work.

“I was in prison, and you came to Me.” – Matthew 25:36

Recent Progress & Collaborations

By God’s grace, SEC Prison Ministries has seen a significant surge in engagement within prisons. Doors are opening as managing chaplains welcome our volunteers into their facilities. Recently, six of our pastors have been connected with various prisons and are undergoing vetting to support these chaplains.

The department distributes books, magazines, and pamphlets to prisons nationwide in collaboration with the British Union Conference (BUC) Personal Ministries Directorate and the Adventist Discovery Centre. Sister Vivian Jere has spearheaded this initiative, and her unwavering dedication to service continues to inspire.

Last week, SEC Prison Ministries donated 49 sleeping bags and 47 pairs of trainers to HMP Highpoint and HMP Chelmsford, following a request from HMP Highpoint. Sisters [Name corrected?] and Vivian Jere led this project, made possible through generous cash and in-kind donations from church members and volunteers.

To raise awareness, the department is visiting churches across the SEC territory to highlight this often-overlooked ministry. Despite its biblical significance, it remains under-resourced and under-prioritised. We urge members and administrators to increase support and recognition for this vital work.
