Folkestone SDA Launches Food Bank Outreach

Recently at Folkestone Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church, we initiated an action to help the local community by offering a food bank to the public. As we have only started recently, we have managed to run two different food banks in April. During these food banks, we keep the church open to encourage the public to come in and meet us. At our first food bank, we only put a couple of items on the table to see which ones were the most popular with the public. We ensured that we were out and talking to people who were walking past so they could have the courage to help themselves. We also had quite a few people come past and take items, and even had others asking questions about religion.

The last food bank that we held was on 26 April. However, before doing this, I contacted a couple of stores to see if they could provide any help. By God’s grace, Asda in Folkestone agreed to help us by offering a box of food items, and also further support in the future. We met the person in charge of the FareShare department, and they promised to continue working with us. At this food bank, we also offered clothing and religious literature. During this action, we also carried out outreach in the town centre, handing out roses to members of the public. Each one of these roses was neatly wrapped and included a bookmark featuring a Bible verse and the church’s address. We also distributed copies of the books The Great Controversy and The Final Hope, which also contained a Bible verse and the church’s address.

With God’s help, we would like to continue this service and spread God’s love to as many people as possible. We hope that this action will bring the members of the church closer together so we can be a light to the local community. We hope you keep us in your prayers. God bless.
