Save me Digital Evangelism Worshop
In preparation for the Save Me Youth Campaign* and in line with OneVoice 27, Tottenham Lighthouse Church organised a Digital Evangelism Workshop on Sabbath, 23 May at 5pm at the Edmonton Church. The presenter was Elder Nicolae Boaghi, Digital Creator from the East London Romanian Church. The event was attended by youth and adults from other churches. Edmonton and Enfield Pastor Juan Carlos Patrick, was also present. Further training will be provided online.
Before the presentation started, we were blessed with a lively song service by the youth from Edmonton. Elder Boaghi shared his riveting testimony on how he accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour two years ago. The skills he had developed over the years creating secular posts for social media, God called him to use it to spread the gospel.
To help us understand the digital landscape, Elder Boaghi shared some startling statistics:
More than 5.6 billion people use social media every day.
People spend on average 4-7 hours in front of screens every day, with 2-3 hours spent just scrolling.
Of the 16,000+ videos uploaded to social media every minute, only 0.6% guide people towards Jesus.
Out of this 0.6% Christ-centred videos, only 0.02% or three videos out of 16,000+ were sharing the Adventist message.
There is, therefore, a need to create powerful Christian posts – videos, Bible animations, youth testimonies, prophecy visuals, short films, children’s animation, mission projects, etc, so that we can become influencers instead of just forwarding other people’s posts.
With a social media video being able to get 1 to 100,000 views in one day, it is the responsibility of the youth, blessed with wisdom and technology, to use it to spread God’s Word to the world. No generation could share their testimony with all their family, friends, classmates, co-workers and associates IN JUST ONE DAY, except now. All it takes is posting a story on social media.
We were encouraged to use technology to help finish the mission. Sis E G White stated, ’Let every possible means be employed for the salvation of souls. Use the press, the platform, the Bible, tract distribution, personal efforts – everything that will tell others of the love of Christ.’ Evangelism, p.218. If Sis White was around today, she would have added digital evangelism to her list, to ensure that every possible means is employed for the saving of souls.
*The youth of Tottenham Lighthouse, Edmonton, Enfield and Leytonstone Churches have teamed up to organise an evangelistic campaign with the theme, Save Me. The motto is IMPACT – Inspired Missionaries Proclaiming the Advent of Christ Today.
Save Me Youth Campaign starts at Leytonstone on Wednesday, 17 June – Wednesday, 8 July. The other three churches will have their campaign at the same time, starting Sabbath, 18 July - Sabbath, 1 August. There will be a baptismal service on Sabbath, 1 August. That same afternoon, all the churches will attend Tottenham Lighthouse for a Celebration Concert to glorify God.
