One Heart, One Voice: Hackney SDA Church Prayer Ministries Prayer Day
The first Sabbath of April, which coincided with the Easter weekend, was recognised as a Day of Prayer at Hackney Seventh-day Adventist Church on Sabbath, 4 April 2026. Under the theme “One Heart, One Voice”, the Prayer Day, led by members of Hackney’s Prayer Ministries team, called for unity among believers at an unprecedented time of war and conflict in the world, coinciding with the commemoration of the death and resurrection of Christ. Hackney Prayer Ministries Leader, Eileen Philip, pointed out that unity among believers can only take place when individuals humbly submit themselves to the leading of God’s Holy Spirit through prayer, confession, and repentance, abiding in Christ.
Sabbath School superintendent, Volta Weekes, likened prayer to the breath of life. “Just as we need oxygen to breathe, live, move and be, so too do we need the spiritual oxygen of prayer in order to maintain an abiding spiritual connection with Christ,” she said. Her mother, Vanessa Richmond, then opened in prayer, requesting of God a spirit of unity and love among believers at a critical prophetic time in earth’s history. The call to prayer was intergenerational, with children from the Junior Sabbath School participating in the service with the reading of a poem entitled The Unified Echo, which was followed by a poignant and moving rendition of the song “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace”.
The adult Sabbath School lesson, entitled Reality Check, highlighted the need for individuals to examine their spiritual lives, determine their spiritual condition, and take heed to the counsel given in Revelation 3:18 to be clothed in white garments, representing the spotless character of Christ, and to have eyes anointed with eye salve, representing the importance of spiritual discernment. This ultimately leads to a clearer understanding of one’s true nature, as revealed by the Holy Spirit in conjunction with the Word of God.
Psalm 42 — a song of meditation sung by Siobhan Prince — reflected on the importance of pouring out the soul to God in prayer and thirsting after Him just as the deer thirsts for water.
In her message, The Divine Architecture of Oneness: One Heart, One Voice, Volta Weekes spoke candidly on the importance of believers developing a spirit of forgiveness and love, which would then lead to unity. She said: “We must lay down our need to be right, in favour of the need to be reconciled. It is then that we can truly glorify God through One Heart and One Voice.”
Following the stirring message, the day continued with a season of prayer for love and unity among believers and for an intergenerational mission to those needing to know about the love of Christ in light of His soon return. A practical presentation on The Holistic Health Benefits of Prayer was delivered by Zinze Bishop. Testimonies were also shared of God’s protective care and of His sacrificial love for humanity as demonstrated on the cross of Calvary, both celebrated and remembered worldwide during that special Easter weekend.
