Area 6C Women’s Ministries bring Festive Cheer to Local Residential Care Home

While for some people Christmas offers a joyous time to spend with family and loved ones for others such as the elderly, homeless or those who have been bereaved it can be one of the most isolating and emotionally upsetting time of the year. With the latter being the case for some, it was with great joy that the Area 6C Women’s Ministries team reached out to residents of the Summerdale Court Care Home based in Newham, East London, on Sabbath 17th December 2022.

Defina Amposah, Women’s Ministries Leader in the London Ghana SDA Church, reported that it was an honour to have the opportunity to serve the needs of others. She said: “Having the opportunity to share the love of Christ through the act of giving was satisfying as it opened further doors for evangelism. The senior nurse at the facility was pleased with the kindness shown and was keen to forge a relationship which would involve inviting members of the churches in the area to sing to the care home residents during their end of year events.”

The visit to the care home was just one of many outreach endeavours involving the Area 6C Women’s Ministries team who had also ministered to the needs of women, families and the local community during the Area 6C Community Health Fest at Stratford during the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations within the UK earlier last year.

Area 6C Women’s Ministries Coordinator, Gina Boamah, who also ministered to the needs of those in the care home alongside her husband, Kingsford Duah Boamah, was very clear on the impact she would like herself and the team to make in service to others. She said: “I am passionate about empowering and advocating for vulnerable church members and therefore accepted the call to serve in leadership within the Health, Home and Family Life, and Community Ministries Department in London Ghana SDA Church where I supported to initiate the Food Bank. In 2014, I was appointed by the Ghanaian Adventist Churches in the UK (GAC-UK) to serve as the Women Ministries Coordinator for the sixteen Ghanaian Churches across the UK and have currently been called to serve as the Area 6C Women Ministry Coordinator which I humbly accepted.”

Originally from Ghana where she had been born into a Muslim family before converting to Christianity in 1983, Gina added: “As we begin a new year, I am looking forward to working with all Pastors, church leadership and women in making disciples for Christ. It is also my prayer that we all prepare for Jesus’ second coming while we seek to make Him known to the world (Rev 14: 6-13) and that all women of Christ will lift Him up.”
