Health Expo at the Filipino Barrio Fiesta
Over the weekend 6th-7th of August, the annual Filipino Barrio Fiesta took place on Lancing Green Beach, West Sussex. The event focused on all things Filipino from finance, to food, houses and even things you’d never consider such as jewellery.
Between 9am and 4pm, members from Worthing and Brighton churches staffed a health and literature stall. The team consisted of medical and other professionals, enthusiastically supported by members of Worthing pathfinders club.Patients were given the opportunity to be involved in a number of interventions, ranging from cholesterol level checks to blood uric acid tests, with the opportunity for further referrals. 160 patients were seen over the weekend, culminating in patient confidential dialogue with doctors from within the team.
All persons attending the health tent, over the two days, were also given access to reading material to assist in improving or assisting spiritual well being as well as lifestyle. The team was supported by the Seventh day Adventist church and the generosity of Sussex company Stoba Präzisionstechnik UK Ltd, who printed the t-shirts worn by team members. A wonderful experience and environment in which to provide community witness, added to by the presence of our Sussex coast sun!
