Brixton SDA Church Launches Community Outreach Prayer Stations

The Brixton Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church Personal Ministries Department has launched its first-ever Community Outreach Prayer Station, marking a significant step in taking prayer beyond the church walls and into the heart of the community.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Brixton SDA Personal Ministries team — Apryl Palmer, Kalinda Maluba, and Natalie Byfield — and supported by Head Elder Layne Robinson, Elder Hugh Samuels, Brother Ricketts, Sister Norton, Sister Camesha Douglas, Tore Byfield, and two young helpers, Preston and Esther. This impactful outreach was made possible through the generosity of Pastor Lorraine Jones-Burrell, MBE – CEO of the Dwayne Simpson Foundation – who granted use of the open green space outside the Dwayne Simpson Foundation Community Centre.

The prayer station served as a safe and welcoming hub for anyone in the community seeking prayer, encouragement, or simply a listening ear. Volunteers distributed inspirational literature and prayed with and for residents, embodying the church’s mission to be “Christ in the Streets” of Brixton.

Held on Saturday, 26th July 2025, the outreach took place in Loughborough Park, SW9 — a vibrant green space deeply connected to the local community and home to the Foundation’s work with youth and families. The location holds special significance, as Loughborough Park is a hub for the Ecuadorian community, many of whom warmly welcomed the team, gratefully receiving literature and prayer.

With the blessing and partnership of Pastor Lorraine Jones-Burrell, church members set up a simple but powerful prayer station — a table, chairs, literature, and open hearts. Through friendly conversation, prayer, and a willingness to meet spiritual and emotional needs, the team created a sacred space in the midst of everyday life.

This first outreach is just the beginning. The Brixton SDA Personal Ministries Department hopes to make prayer stations a regular feature in local parks, creating ripples of hope and connection throughout the community.
