Men’s Mental Health Highlighted at Hanwell SDA Father’s Day Event
Mental health is one of the most pressing needs in the borough of Ealing. The British Union Conference (BUC) Director for Health and Women’s Ministries, Sister Sharon Platt-McDonald, underlined this point during her Centre of Hope, Health and Healing (CHHH) Inauguration presentation at Hanwell Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church on 10th May 2025. Sister Sharon emphasised the urgent need for the church to address mental health issues with intentionality. She stressed the importance of “knowing your borough statistics and illness prevalence to provide interventions that meet those specific needs.”
Responding to this call, Hanwell Community Ministries followed up with a targeted mental health awareness initiative during their Father’s Day Dinner, held a day early on 14th June 2025.
The event was intentional in its focus—highlighted by personal testimonies on the critical importance of men’s mental health awareness in promoting solidarity and providing emotional anchors during times of crisis. The dinner brought men together in a supportive and reflective environment, creating a meaningful platform to explore key mental health challenges affecting men today.
Attendees engaged in open discussions centred around suicide prevention, men’s mental wellbeing, and the importance of creating safe spaces for honest conversation. The warm and respectful atmosphere encouraged participants to share personal experiences and support one another.
Facilitators stressed the need to break the stigma around men expressing vulnerability and seeking help. Resources were shared, and group conversations explored how community and faith-based initiatives can play a vital role in improving mental wellbeing.
The event successfully blended fellowship with purpose, leaving a lasting impact on those who attended. It reminded everyone that reaching out is a sign of strength—not weakness.
