Over 500 Gather for SEC Children’s Day of Fellowship on Easter Sabbath

Easter Sabbath, 19 April, was a special day of worship and celebration, thoughtfully centred on the story of Christ’s resurrection and its meaning for children and families. With an attendance of more than 500 parents and children from various churches, the atmosphere was filled with joy, reflection, and spiritual inspiration.

The highlight of the day was the inspiring sermon delivered by Pastor Nicole Gooden. Her message focused on the disappointments and joys experienced by God’s people, drawing a meaningful parallel with the Easter story. Using a creative illustration involving an empty chocolate box, she captured the hearts of the children and adults alike. At first disappointed by what seemed to be an empty gift, the children’s joy when chocolates were eventually revealed reminded everyone that God can turn our greatest disappointments into joy through the power of the resurrection. Her message was heartfelt, relatable, and deeply spiritual—truly the pinnacle of the day’s worship.

The programme began with a vibrant opening ceremony led by the Pathfinders Drum Corps, who delivered an excellent and spirited performance that set the tone for the day. Throughout the morning service, children from different churches offered uplifting songs and special musical items that brought energy and inspiration to all in attendance.

A vibrant skit was performed by Lorna Douglas and Kay Palmer, who brought to life the story of Mary and the other women at the tomb. Their enthusiastic and heartfelt portrayal of the resurrection—captured in the powerful moment when the women discovered “no-body” was in the tomb—moved the hearts of both young and old.

The programme was further enriched by special guests. Dr Steve Currow, representing Newbold College, shared exciting opportunities the college offers for young people to engage in missionary work and spiritual growth. Lorraine McDonald, BUC Education Director, spoke passionately about the importance of Adventist education. She celebrated the positive impact of our schools while honestly addressing ongoing challenges, encouraging parents to support our schools by enrolling their children or through financial contributions.

The day concluded with a heartwarming concert in the afternoon, featuring children’s musical performances from various churches—a joyful celebration of resurrection hope.
