Stanborough Park Church Gearing up for the British Spring Clean
Care for the environment has become a hot topic recently. It is exactly this problem that the Keep Britain Tidy environmental charity is running the Great British Spring Clean event from 21 March to 13 April during which time groups of volunteers across the British Isles will form with the aim of clearing some of the mess that has accumulated in their local areas.
Global Youth Day is an international annual denominational event which challenges the youth of the Church to make a difference in their locality. With the current generation of the country's youth more environmentally aware than most these days what better way for them to demonstrate their concerns and make a difference in a practical way than joining in the Great British Spring Clean.
This year Global Youth Day occurs on 21 March and what better way for the youth of Stanborough Park church to use their gifts to help others and show their care for the environment than accepting the challenge to get involved in the Great British Spring Clean event.With this in mind Stanborough Park church has set out an ambitious project to make Watford a more pleasant place to live and work and also involve the local community in a big clean-up operation on Global Youth Day masterminded by church member Enoch Kanagaraj.Starting out as leader of the Community Chaplaincy Department, Enoch has expanded its scope bringing together local charities and support groups for monthly meetings at the church sharing expertise, training and resources under the 'One Vision' umbrella. Using his 'One Vision' connections Enoch has obtained support from the Mayor of Watford and group members as well as local service providers for this big project along with Watford's MP, Dean Russell, who is keen to help. With sponsorship from Co-op Food, which amongst other things will provide funding and gazebos, support from Watford Borough Council providing recycling bags etc., local refuse service provider Veolia providing litter pickers, bins, all that is needed are volunteers. Here the church's youth will play an active role and it is hoped that others from the community will join them.
Although the church's youth will miss the normal Sabbath services they will have the opportunity to worship and not only will be using their gifts to help and serve others, raising the church's profile in the community, but also will be providing the sermon with their actions.
The event on Sabbath, 21 March is scheduled for the hours 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and will begin at the Tesco car park in Watford. Anyone of any age can join and there will be jobs in marshalling, refreshments etc. and not just litter picking so all abilities can join in for either all or part of the event.
