Tottenham Lighthouse: Serving our community with love - Part 2
On Sabbath, 6 September 2025, Tottenham Lighthouse held the sacred ceremony of Communion. It was a spirit-filled service. It was preceded by a sermon by our Pastor Dr Jude Jeanville. He used 1 Corinthians 15:1-10 as his main text, focusing on verses 3 – 4: Jesus died, was buried and rose again. He called this, ‘The gospel in a nutshell.’ This special service was not only for members of Tottenham Lighthouse. Seated in the congregation and partaking in this divinely ordained service were Pastor Levi Johnson, the Executive Secretary of the Jamaica Union Conference; Reverend Jean Johnson and Pastor Davies from the Church of God and members of the community who receive supplies from our Food Hub and are our special guests at our church each Sabbath.

Following on, Sunday, 7 September was another day planned with the community in mind. The Men’s Ministries under the leadership of Amos Ehiorigie-ehis and his team, organised a Community Fun Day. The forecast was for heavy rains on the Sunday, which resulted in one company turning down our request to hire a bouncy castle. However, the church prayed and the men stepped out in faith and went ahead planning the event. This included hiring a bouncy castle from another company and arranging with Mr Ugof, Manager of Forks & Greens Café, to use their power supply - a facility he has always granted us and we have shown him our appreciation in the past by presenting him with a plaque. The Lord gave us the most glorious Sunday in September. The children, mostly from the community, enjoyed not only the bouncy castle on The Green - the small park opposite the church, but also arts and crafts with Maureen Pollock and face painting with Angel Meguille Soyam.

At church, there were various activities taking place: health checks by retired nurse Jacqui Denton-Ireland, foot massage by Marie Green-Dolan, and the barbecue that could be smelt from about 50 metres away. People coming from church, the locals and those passing by were attracted to the aroma of the barbecue and came and joined in the feast. Even a bus driver, who stopped at the bus stop opposite the church, was attracted by the smell of the barbecue and asked for some to be put aside for him to collect on his way back. Faithful Lawanda Mansukani was there with a table giving out literature and books and speaking to those who stopped by. Tottenham Lighthouse members had an opportunity to mingle with the community.
That Sunday evening, Prayer Ministries held the second session in its online Bible series, ‘Is the Bible Still Relevant in the 21st Century?’ The speaker was Pastor Dr Robert Wright, Asst Professor at Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica. He looked at the evidence from history and archaeology to show without a shadow of a doubt that the Bible was still relevant and could be trusted. The first session of the Bible series was held on Sunday, 3 August and the speaker was Pastor Mohan Abbadasari. He gave an overview of the areas to be covered during the series – history, archaeology, prophecy and the power of the Bible to transform lives. He also added an additional area, science in his presentation. For these two sessions we had members, non-members, and persons from the US, Jamaica and Canada joining us via Zoom.
The next presentation in the Bible series is on Sunday, 5 October. The speaker will be Dr Ivan Milanov, Senior Lecturer at Newbold College. He will be presenting on the role of prophecy in proving that the Bible is authentic, still relevant and can be trusted in the 21st Century. You are invited to join us and to also share the link below with family and friends who have questions about the relevance of the Bible. Join us via Zoom on the 5 October at 7pm. At Tottenham Lighthouse, we are on a mission to reflect God’s glory – His goodness and character to those around us. We aim to be as Jesus commanded us to be, ‘Salt of the earth and light of the world’. His command cannot be any clearer, ‘Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.’ Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
