West Croydon Church Expands 'Love Thy Neighbour' Food bank with Monthly Community Breakfast

West Croydon Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church runs a weekly food bank called "Love Thy Neighbour," which ministers to the local community. Recently, we have extended the food bank to include a monthly community breakfast.

Organised by the deaconry department, we invite those attending the food bank to come earlier on a Sunday morning to share breakfast with us. This initiative provides an opportunity for church members and community members to get to know each other.

Last weekend, on 26th May, attendees were treated to a song from Elder Courtney Hoillet, followed by a short talk from Elder John Bishop. Elder Bishop expounded on the parable of the Good Samaritan and demonstrated how the principles of that parable are incorporated into the mission of the SDA Church in caring for the needs of those in our community.

The breakfast consisted of fruits, pastries and porridge which were served with hot and cold drinks. Muslim guests were assured that the food and drink was halal and that the SDA Church are the "people of the book" recommended by the Qur'an.

The event was closed with an invitation to public and personal prayer followed by examples of the power of prayer as experienced by food bank attendees.
