You Are My Breakthrough

Hackney Church was at full capacity during a special Visitors Day held on Sabbath 23rd November 2019. The theme – You are my Breakthrough was focused around the story of Joseph – the trials he faced from being falsely accused of harassment by Potiphar’s Wife to the blessing of being made one of the most powerful rulers in Egypt – which was demonstrated throughout the day in the form of a play.

Sabbath School Superintendent, Maria Vinas, said "a breakthrough is overcoming an obstacle. The God who works out the impossible just as He did for Joseph will do the same for you."

The lesson study presented by Elder Japheth Obese Amakwah was on the covenant. He said: “When a covenant is made between God and his people, God always keeps His promise even when we don't and if it was not for His grace we would all be eternally lost."

Visitors were then given a special welcome by children from the Junior Sabbath School before a worship video was shown with the words to the gospel anthem – Breakthrough by Gospel legendary artist Hezekiah Walker featuring Donnie McClurkin.

A special prayer was offered by Hackney’s Pastor - Joojo Bonnie - for the youth after a week in which we had seen a marked increase in the amount of lives lost to knife crime and violence with 23 deaths which has exceeded the amount of those killed in the capital last year.

The guest speaker was Clarence Jackson. Focusing on Luke 5:1-11, Jackson encouraged the visitors and members to launch out into the deep in order to experience their breakthrough. He said: “Some of the problems we have is because we lack vision and are too comfortable on the land. We do not see the opportunities God sends to us daily. Opportunities are linked to success. We must step out onto the lake.”

He added: “Your breakthrough is on the way. Trust in God with all your heart and lean not unto you own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.”

To their delight each visitor received a gift bag containing a signed copy of Clarence’s newly published book – The Journey from Yard to Broad: Stories of Trial and Triumph.

Truly it was a blessed day from start to finish and all those present left knowing that because of the sacrifice of Jesus for them on the cross of Calvary that their breakthrough was on the way.
