A Vital Conversation About Stewardship

A Vital Conversation About Stewardship

On Sabbath 6 December, World Stewardship Day, the British Union Conference and all its associated territories opened a significant consultation, inviting every member to participate. This is more than an administrative exercise - it is an opportunity for our church family to thoughtfully consider how we practise stewardship in our contemporary context.

When it comes to supporting the work of the gospel, financial stewardship goes beyond occasional generosity or one-time responses to appeals. In 1 Corinthians 16:1-4, the apostle Paul urges believers to develop a faithful, consistent pattern of returning to God and supporting His mission through planned, weekly giving. With this biblical foundation in mind, we have designed a two-part survey to gather your insights.

The first part explores your current experience - your patterns of attendance, your approach to tithing and offerings, and how you engage with Scripture in daily life. These questions help us understand where we are as a church family today.

The second part looks forward, inviting your thoughts on how we can approach systematic giving as a community. As our churches evolve and giving patterns shift, the traditional offering calendar that served previous generations so well no longer provides the clear framework many members need. We are therefore exploring a more streamlined approach - one that strengthens local ministry, supports our wider mission, and remains transparent and accessible for all members.

Your participation is both vital and anonymous. While there will be an opportunity at the end to express interest in joining a focus group for deeper discussion, this will not be connected to your survey responses.

The insights gathered will reveal where we need to strengthen our ministry across Missions, Conferences and Union: through clearer communication, more relevant stewardship education, greater financial transparency, and better practical support for our congregations.

To take part, please go to https://qrco.de/stewardshipsnapshot or scan the QR code in the flyer. Please share with other church members and visitors to help us get as many people involved as possible.

Our target is 4,000 responses by the end of March. If each church encourages just ten members to participate, we will comfortably reach this goal. Pastors have received bookmarks containing the survey link, with additional copies available by contacting stewardship@secadventist.org.uk

Your perspective is invaluable. By completing this survey, you help shape a more intentional and sustainable culture of stewardship throughout our church family. This is your opportunity to influence how we move forward together in faithful giving and mission support.
