Bury St Edmunds SDA Church Honours Mothers with ‘A Heart of Gratitude’ Celebration
On Sabbath, 29th March, Bury St Edmunds Seventh-day Adventist Church held a heartwarming Mother’s Day celebration under the theme “A Heart of Gratitude.” Following a delightful fellowship lunch, the church family gathered for a special programme dedicated to honouring and appreciating mothers in a faith-filled and interactive way.
The Nurture Department thoughtfully planned the event, which ensured every detail reflected the love and gratitude owed to mothers. One standout feature was the Mirror of Positive Affirmations—a beautifully decorated mirror where mothers were invited to pause, reflect, and read empowering messages such as “I am a warrior,” “I am kind,” “I am grateful,” “I am dedicated,”and “I am strong.” It became a powerful moment of self-affirmation and reflection, and many mothers took beautiful photos as they meditated on the inspiring words.
The programme featured moving tributes, joyful participation, and moments of genuine emotion. A particularly touching highlight was a surprise video presentation of heartfelt poems recorded by children who live far from their mothers—there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.
The atmosphere was further enriched by praise and worship led by Vinícius, Samuel, and Maya. This was followed by an engaging icebreaker game in which blindfolded children had to identify their mothers by touch, creating both laughter and tender moments.
Our first elder, Richard Shone, delivered an inspiring meditation rooted in Scripture, reflecting on the vital role God entrusted to women, from creation to the present day. Drawing from Judges 4, he spoke on Deborah’s powerful example as a mother, prophetess, and judge, and highlighted the courage of Jael. He also shared insights into the life of Ellen G. White, who answered God’s call when others declined, reminding us that God equips and calls women to roles both humble and great.
The programme involved husbands and children in active roles—some leading in front of the church for the very first time, to the great pride of their families. Personal reflections were shared through written notes of gratitude, lovingly displayed in a heart on the wall.
The celebration concluded with a blessing prayer for all mothers, a thoughtful gift-giving moment (with special sashes), and a joyful group and individual photos. A beautifully laid-out dessert table with cakes and sweets allowed everyone to continue fellowshipping in love and appreciation.
This memorable afternoon served as a beautiful reminder of the God-given strength and influence of mothers, and the power of a grateful heart.
