Newbold Adventures look forward to celebrating World Adventures Day again

The Newbold Adventurer Club, which has around 50 Adventurers, are looking forward to celebrating World Adventurer Day again on Sabbath, 16 May 2026, with the theme, ‘Walking With Jesus’. The Club looks forward with great anticipation, especially as they reflect on how they celebrated last year, and encourages other Adventurer Clubs countrywide to also celebrate on this day. Here is their reflection from last year:

On Sabbath, 17 May 2025, the Newbold Adventurer Club celebrated World Adventurer Day at Newbold Primary School Hall, followed by an afternoon visit to a local nursing home in Bracknell. The theme of the day was Travel by Faith and Pastor Pavle Trajkovski was the guest speaker. The day marked the 36th anniversary of the Adventurer Club worldwide.

The day began with a warm welcome and an opening prayer by Laisiyana Gonerogo, Newbold Adventurer Class Coordinator. This was followed by songs of praise and worship by the Helping Hands class.

The theme ‘Travel by Faith’ was seen throughout the day. In her children’s story, Rachel Lux, Adventurers and Pathfinders Director, told how God was with her Jewish father who was called to serve the Adventist Church in Israel. With the use of a map, Rachel showed the children the distance her family travelled by car from France to Israel. Rachel spoke of the many challenges met throughout the journey, yet God looked after them until they arrived safely.

Pastor Pavle echoed the same sentiments of travelling by faith by drawing from the story of the disciples travelling with Jesus. Pastor Pavle referred to Matthew 8:23–27 where the disciples became fearful of the storm and woke Jesus, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”

Pastor Pavle said that it was Jesus who started this journey; therefore, the disciples ought not to have worried because when we have Jesus in our journeys there is no need to fear. Paralleling this story with our everyday lives, Pastor Pavle said that whenever we are in doubt as we start a journey, we should always ask, would Jesus start this journey, or is He the one calling us to walk this way?

Another point Pastor Pavle drew from the scripture was that no matter what the journey looks like, so long as we are with Jesus, even when challenges persist, we should have the faith that everything will be fine. The sermon marked the end of the morning programme.

The Adventurers, their families, and counsellors had lunch together. After lunch, the children made cards which they gave to the elderly people who live at Astbury Manor Nursing Home. There were prayers and singing, and then the children presented the cards to each elderly resident and asked if they would like a personal prayer, to which many of them agreed. “It was so touching to see the kids interacting and connecting with the elderly, and seeing the elderly so happy,” said Jammie Karlman, Helping Hands Class Teacher.

The Nursing Home Manager thanked the Adventurers, their families, and counsellors, saying, “We are so moved by such a heart-warming visit and the joy you have brought to the residents and how you have shown them love.”

Laisiyana said, “As a club we would like to do more things to impact the community, in so doing teaching the children to be the hands and feet of Jesus even at their young age.”

The Newbold Adventurer Club have planned a similar programme for this year, where at the heart of it is giving children an opportunity to serve God and also a perfect opportunity to reach out to the community and display the love of Jesus.
