United to Serve in Love and Obedience
Hackney SDA Prayer Day
Church community members and visitors marked the first Sabbath of the new year of 2026 in uniting together in fellowship and prayer during Hackney’s Prayer Day on Sabbath 3rd January 2026. The theme – United to Serve in Love and Obedience – highlighted the importance of putting faith into action through obedience to God which then leads on to those providing loving service to others. Sabbath School Superintendents, Vivian Nelson and Brenda Nelson led the congregation in the reading of scriptures related to the theme, while the prayer team called the Church to pray in small groups also in alignment with the day’s theme.
Hackney Prayer Ministries Leader, Eileen Philip, encouraged the church to work together in unity and love in service to others during this new year of 2026, with a room also set apart for any individuals requiring prayer throughout the day. In his sermon entitled Lock, Stock and Barrel, Elder Irvine A. Lauder visiting from the New Life SDA Church admonished the congregants to respond to the call to be on mission for Christ in sincerity, truth, and loving obedience. “The purpose of sermons is not only to comfort the conflicted but to also conflict the comforted,” he begun before later concluding: “Being a Christian is a full-time occupation. We are to follow the Holy Spirit step-by-step and recognize how wonderful it is to be born again.”
Immediately after divine service, a session of prayer, led by Hackney’s prayer team ensued with scriptures read alongside prayers made in connection with the day’s theme.
