Welling Children’s Ministries Make “Emergency Stops” to Thank Local Fire and Ambulance Heroes
On Sabbath, 10th May 2025, 26 excited children, led by Aunty Jackie and her dedicated team of Children’s Ministries Coordinators, along with supportive parents, made two remarkable “emergency stops”—not in need of help, but on a mission to give it. Their purpose? To minister to the hardworking Fire and Ambulance personnel of Bexleyheath and Barnehurst. What better day to serve others than on the Sabbath?
At the Fire Station, the group was warmly welcomed by Justin, the Chief Fire Officer, and at the Ambulance Station by Zoe. Before the children could begin their presentations, they were in for a thrilling surprise. “Wow! Wow!” they exclaimed as they each took turns handling the firefighters’ supply hoses to put out an imaginary fire. Laughter filled the air as water hit the targets, joyfully echoing the excitement of the afternoon. Then came another highlight: climbing aboard a real fire engine and wearing firefighter helmets, which lit up the children’s faces with sheer delight.
The Ambulance Station was just as engaging. Some children eagerly volunteered to have their heart rates checked. Thankfully, all showed healthy readings! Each child was gifted a book and a sticker as a keepsake.
During the visits, Daynea offered a thoughtful introduction, sharing that the children had been learning about service. This was a powerful lesson in giving back to the community. Aretha and Grace delivered heartfelt speeches of appreciation. Ephraim, Olivia, Ese, and Rejoice presented gift hampers to the staff. The children then sang “Thanks” by Joy Gardner, a rendition that visibly moved the service personnel. When asked if the children could pray for them, the fire and ambulance staff gladly accepted. Caleb and Prosper led out in prayer for the firefighters and paramedics, respectively. So touched were the first responders that they described the children as “the best group ever” and “simply amazing.”
The impact was so significant that the paramedics offered to connect our church with the London Lifesavers Team, who have since agreed to visit and teach the Adventurers and Pathfinders vital lifesaving techniques.
This outreach marks just the beginning of the Children’s Ministry community engagement programme. We look forward to building strong, lasting relationships within the Welling and neighbouring communities.
We pray that these emergency stops will be a spark that leads others to know Christ—not saving lives for now, but for eternity.
