Four baptised in Hackney’s Reignited and Restored Campaign
Four precious souls were baptised at the end of a dynamic two-week campaign (6-18th October 2025) at the Hackney Seventh-day Adventist Church with special guest speaker, Pastor Cory Jackson.
Born and raised in Chicago Illinois, USA, Pastor Jackson leads the New Covenant SDA Church located in Memphis Tennessee, USA and is married to Janet Jackson with whom together they have 5 young adult children. In his video introduction, it was stated that Pastor Jackson loves God, his family, church and community and passionately leads his church in regularly reaching out to the community with food deliveries and medical assistance for those impacted with sickle cell – a blood disease prominent within both Black African American and Black British African-Caribbean communities.
Each night and consecutive Sabbaths under the theme Reignited and Restored, Pastor Jackson challenged members to put themselves under the spotlight and closely examine whether they were truly living the consecrated and committed lives Christ requires to see in those who profess to know and follow Him. Behavioural traits such as anger, gossiping, pride and discontentment, often treated lightly and in a trivial manner, were clearly pointed out as common sins needing to be eradicated out of the lives of individuals today just as they needed to in the past as exhibited by the scribes and pharisees, who, among others, often placed an emphasis on the keeping of the law rather than on having a relationship with Jesus Christ Himself.
Notable highlights during the campaign included members taking off their shoes in a symbolic illustration of there being a need for a change in direction which follows Jesus rather than their own steps and the burning of papers containing the personal internal struggles inhibiting the offering of true service to God and to those whom He has called his people to reach with the everlasting gospel as commissioned in Matthew 28:19-20 and Revelation 14:6. Special items were rendered by Pastor Vaughn Thorpe, Myrtle O’Keefe (Whom Shall I Fear?), Jevan Lecointe, Michaela Mathieu-Marius (Reckless Love) and Hackney’s Praise Team (Breathe into Me Oh Lord).
The campaign ended in jubilation as Neriah Adewuyi, Siobhan Prince, Olufunke Ayorinde and Arben Hippolyte gave their lives to Christ in baptism in the presence of their families and friends, both in person as well as those who had been watching livestream on YouTube. Added to the celebration was the baptism of Deshane Philip (a homegrown Hackney regular since childhood and brother to the writer) at Poinciana SDA Church located in Orlando Florida, USA which was also livestreamed in London just a few minutes before Hackney’s own campaign came to an end.
