Tottenham Lighthouse SDA Church at Haringey Remembrance Sunday Service

On Sunday, 10 November 2024, Tottenham Lighthouse Church and other organisations joined Haringey Council for the annual Remembrance Sunday Service at the West Green War Memorial, located in the park in front of the church. This annual event was organised by Cllr Barbara Blake and supported by other Haringey councillors, including the Mayor of Haringey, Cllr Sue Jameson, and Cllr Michelle Simmons-Safo. Other civic dignitaries present included Rev Lee Clark, Parish Priest of St Philip the Apostle & St Mary’s in Tottenham; Norrie Doyle from the Royal British Legion Scotland; leaders of Haringey Sea Cadets; and others. Tottenham Lighthouse Pathfinders, with the support of Veronica Wilson-Hart from Ilford Lane SDA Church, were also in attendance.

The pastor of Tottenham Lighthouse, Dr Jude Jeanville, led one of the prayers, while Paige Mitchell, a Pathfinder, was chosen to lay a wreath at the base of the West Green War Memorial. At the end of the short service, Pastor Jeanville extended a warm welcome to all present on behalf of our church. Later, First Elder Roger Charles invited everyone to join us for refreshments in the church.

Since 2021, Haringey Council has invited Tottenham Lighthouse to be involved in its Remembrance Sunday Service at the West Green War Memorial. Special thanks go to Junior Soyam, Communication Leader, who provided technical expertise to ensure voices could be heard above the traffic noise, and to Maureen Pollock, Personal Ministries Leader, and her team for preparing and serving refreshments in the church after the service.

Tottenham Lighthouse was also represented elsewhere. Earlier in the day, in the London Borough of Hackney, Barry Morris, our Sabbath School Superintendent, was chosen by the Conservative Party to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph at St John at Hackney Church.

As we pay homage to the men and women who died in the two World Wars and later conflicts, let us never forget the supreme sacrifice made by Jesus Christ to save us from our sins: “But God demonstrates his own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (NLT)
