Taunton SDA Church and Chard Plant Hold ‘Disciple Makers’ Retreat in Cornwall

The members of the Taunton Seventh-day Adventist Church and Chard Plant recently concluded a four-day retreat from 16th to 19th July at the South England Conference Youth campsite at Chapel Porth, St Agnes, in Truro, Cornwall.

The members have attended the annual retreats at this scenic campsite for over eight years, and this year’s theme was tagged “Disciple Makers”, featuring two guest speakers.

The first guest speaker, Pastor (Dr) Michael Mbui delivered two insightful devotional training sessions on John 15:5-8, reminding the church that true discipleship involves abiding in Christ and bearing much fruit. He also charged the members to look to, listen to, learn from, and live for Jesus. Ultimately, the test of a true disciple is to lead many others to Jesus.

The second guest speaker, Evangelist Simba Muhau, presented two powerful messages on Friday evening: ‘Hold Your Corner,’ based on Mark 2:1-11, and the Sabbath divine service, titled ‘Ugly Religion, Beautiful Church,' based on the narrative of Acts 3:1-10, challenging the members to be good and true disciples of Jesus.

The weekend was filled with prayers, social activities, and healthy walks to the seaside and along mountain trails, offering beautiful views of the Cornish coastlines.

It was indeed a powerful and refreshing spiritual experience with a reminder of the psalmist's words… “I will lift my eyes unto the mountains…. to the Lord and Maker of heaven and earth.
