Area 1 Pathfinder Camp at Chapel Porth

Chapel Porth may not be the first place you think of to set up camp but it’s the place we know and love here in Area 1. Over 60 Pathfinders and counsellors from Devon and Cornwall met there for a weekend of praise and development and to celebrate World Pathfinder Day 2025 together as a community.

Our speaker for the weekend, David Sonder and his family, ministered to us on being Pathfinders on Purpose. He drew on examples in the bible like Daniel, David and of course Jesus Himself. One of the examples that stuck with me was when David was on his deathbed in 2 Samuel 23:8-16 and remembered 3 warriors. These men saw something needed doing and did it and we should too. As Pathfinders and children of God we should notice what needs to be done and put thought into action.

Over the weekend despite the harsh rain and wind we managed to complete the Camping Skills 2 honour with counsellors Desire, Grace, Mwangala, Aggie, Verna and, Area Coordinator, Pam leading out in practical demonstrations and tuition. Our TLTs also joined in with the tuition as Julia (TLT2) taught the Insect honour, Phoebe (TLT3) lead 1-minute games which kept everyone competitively entertained and Ianna (TLT1) lead worship and organised a dramatic monologue for her fellow Pathfinders to perform.

The weather put our tent pitching skills to the test as strong gusts threatened to carry one of our tents away. Thankfully Counsellor Aggie noticed and rallied us all to repeg the tent. It was a memorable weekend indeed and despite the weather the camp was a big success.

Special thanks to our camp cooks; Julia, Sue and Jackie who tirelessly made sure everyone was well fed and energised for the busy schedule.

It is always a joyful time when we meet as an area, renewing friendships and encouraging one another. We can’t wait for our next event area Pathfinder and Adventurer event.
