Five Baptised as Plumstead SDA Concludes ‘Finding Hope in Uncertain Times’ Series
The Plumstead Community Seventh-day Adventist Church was filled with joy and praise as it concluded its two-week evangelistic series titled “Finding Hope in Uncertain Times”, with five individuals making the life-changing decision to follow Christ through baptism.
Running from 21 June to 5 July, the series was led by dynamic guest speaker Pastor Dwayne Marson, who captivated audiences each night with his simple yet powerful presentations of the gospel. Pastor Marson’s messages were not only biblically grounded but also deeply relevant, offering hope to hearts searching for meaning and peace in today’s turbulent world.
Throughout the series, several key themes emerged. In the message “Can I Start Again?”, Pastor Marson spoke of the ever-fresh gifts of Jesus that renew and uplift the soul, emphasising the restoring nature of God’s grace. “When Darkness Ends” offered a glimpse of the hope found in the Second Coming—a promise of triumph over despair and the joyful reunion of God’s family.
In “This Is My Home,” the message was clear: even in our failure, we are never beyond the reach of God’s love. Pastor Marson reminded listeners that “when Jesus walks into your darkness, your night becomes day.” The sermon “When God Feels Far Away”, based on John 1:14 – “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us”, painted a moving picture of Christ’s nearness and compassion, highlighting how He came not just to proclaim hope but to live it—touching the untouchable, dining with doubters, and healing the hurting.
The culmination of the series was marked by a deeply spiritual baptismal service. Helen Edom was baptised in the sea during the series, a symbol of the depth and renewal of her faith. On the morning of 5 July, Pastor Wentworth Sewell baptised Shameka Latavia Whitter, Carla Patricia Golding, and Faithlynn Richards. In a touching final moment, Kamilah Zelavia Lindo responded to the closing altar call. So moved was she by the Spirit that the church reopened the baptismal pool in the afternoon just for her.
Church leaders and members alike rejoiced in what they called a Spirit-led and soul-winning campaign. “We praise God for the success of the campaign,” said one church elder. “In uncertain times, hope was found, and lives were transformed.”
As Plumstead Community SDA Church looks forward to continued growth and ministry, the message remains clear: in Christ, there is always hope, and it is never too late to come home.
