Prayer & Faith Through the Storms: Women’s Ministries Day at Plumstead SDA
Plumstead Community Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church was richly blessed on Sabbath, 7 February 2026, as women and young women led a Spirit-filled Women’s Ministries Day under the theme of faith, prayer, and confidence in Christ.
The day was graciously hosted by Sister Nto Mafu, Women’s Ministries Leader, who, together with her dedicated team, extended a warm welcome to visitors and to the guest speaker, Elder Anastasia Ross, Women’s Ministries and Possibilities Director for the South England Conference. In a touching moment of appreciation, the senior women of the church were honoured and presented with gifts, recognising their faithfulness, wisdom, and continued contribution to the life of the church.
Women and young women led the services throughout the day, beginning with Sabbath School. The lesson, titled “Confidence Only in Christ,” set the spiritual foundation for the day. Young adult women brought the lesson to life through a creative and engaging skit, portraying various women from the Bible whose faith journeys encouraged the congregation to trust God fully, even in challenging circumstances.
The divine service was highlighted by a powerful sermon delivered by Elder Anastasia Ross entitled “A Woman of Prayer & Faith – Through the Storms.” Using Hebrews 4:14–16, she reminded the congregation why believers can approach God’s throne with confidence, boldness, and assurance. The message then focused on the story of the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15:22–28. Despite being viewed as an outcast, this woman’s unwavering and persistent faith moved the heart of Jesus and resulted in her prayer being answered. Elder Ross powerfully captured this truth with the theme, “Even Jesus’ Crumbs Can Meet All Our Needs.”
Drawing parallels with the faith of the centurion in Matthew 8, Elder Ross shared key lessons: that true, persistent prayer of faith triumphs, and that genuine faith is lived out daily as we trust in a Saviour who deeply cares for every one of us.
In a light-hearted but meaningful role reversal, the men of the church served lunch and blessed the congregation with a beautiful song of praise to open the afternoon programme after the fellowship meal. The joy continued as young women led an interactive Kahoot Bible quiz, engaging both youth and adults and creating an atmosphere of learning, laughter, and connection.
The day concluded with a dynamic and deeply relatable workshop led by Elder Ross entitled “Finding Peace in Life’s Everyday Storms,” based on Proverbs 31. Through her personal testimony, she shared her journey from what she described as “being a mess” to experiencing a genuine and authentic relationship with God. She challenged attendees to reflect honestly on who they are, helping them recognise how identity shapes the way life’s storms are perceived and navigated.
Elder Ross introduced the concept of five types of trauma and outlined practical, faith-based tools for healing and growth, emphasising the importance of being self-aware, emotionally intelligent, and intentional about setting healthy boundaries. She encouraged the congregation with the reminder that, “No matter what the crisis, you can find your peace.”
Concluding the day, she emphasised that through faith and specific, persistent prayer, as guided by Proverbs 31:30, God is able to bring peace in the storms of life and, in His time, “help us become” the Proverbs 31 woman.
The Women’s Ministries Day was a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness, the strength of women of faith, and the peace that comes from trusting Christ wholeheartedly.
