Reading Angaza Pathfinder Day Highlights Youth Investiture, Induction, and Drum Corps Showcase

Sabbath, 11th October 2025, was a colourful day for Reading Angaza Pathfinders and Adventurers. The church programmes for the day were fully dedicated to celebrations and inspiration for the young people.

During the opening ceremony, a squad of Area 5 Pathfinder and Adventurer Coordinators – Sister Vimbai, Dr Darlington, and Sister Comfort – made the day a memorable one by their eloquent march. They were preceded by the Reading Angaza drum corps, who sent out a distinctive tone to the surrounding neighbourhood. Behind the Area 5 coordinators followed Devotha Magazi, Reading Angaza Pathfinder Director, and Joyce Champanda, Assistant Pathfinder Director. The flag bearers decorated the day.

During the sermon, Sister Comfort charged the Pathfinders and Adventurers with a powerful sermonette that called the Pathfinders to be ever ready to stand in their post of duty as their motto commands.

The occasion saw the following number of Pathfinders and Adventurers being invested and awarded certificates:

1 - Busy Bee, 1 - Builder, 2 - Friends, 3 - Companions, 3 - Explorers, 3 - Rangers, and 2 - Guides.

Alongside the Pathfinders, young people who are undertaking the Teens Leadership Training (TLT) programme were recognised for their hard work. Four of the TLTs were awarded certificates of completion for their second-year level, and two were awarded certificates of completion for the third-year level. The icing on the cake for the certificate awards was Joyce Champanda, who has completed her Master Guide in Training (MIT) programme. She was invited to the front as a surprise and was presented with a certificate of recognition for completing her MIT programme.

The Investiture service was immediately followed by an induction programme conducted by Devotha Magazi, the Reading Angaza Pathfinder Director, and Joyce Champanda, the Assistant Director. Devotha inducted the Pathfinders while Joyce undertook the induction for the Adventurers.

The Reading Angaza drum corps held a drumming special feature for the community around Hexham Community Centre. They marched out of the building where the investiture and induction services took place into the open air near the car park area and drilled for about 5 to 7 minutes. The experience remains electrifying to this very day.

The day was crowned with a free fellowship lunch popular for “MAAKULI”, meaning food/provisions for Swahili-speaking communities. For people of Eastern and Central African descent, food and music form two distinctive features that determine whether a day is called a good day or a bad day. It was a pleasure to see many people flocking in for the delicacies. Special thanks to the families of the Area 5 coordinators who blessed us with their presence.

God bless you, and welcome to Reading Angaza SDA Church.
