Religious Liberty & Education, Tuesday Session 1 - Camp Meeting 2019

Pastor Brighton Kavaloh began the first of two Religious Liberty and Education sessions about the Department of Education’s proposed legislation for “Children not in School”. The consultation period, which allows for public feedback, ends June 24, 2019. The presentation included a short video clip of Barrister Simon McCrossan, the head of public policy for the Evangelical Alliance, where he warned that the proposed legislation could affect a range of Christian activities for children at church, home or in other “settings”. This could include the need to register such activity and the possibility of government inspection by Ofsted (the Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills) including the questioning of teachers, volunteers, parents and even children. The government proposals are seen as too broad, too ambiguous and a serious threat to religious liberty. Pastor Kavaloh emphasised many times to those attending, the importance of mobilising church members to provide timely feedback.

From breakfast to worship and fellowship, men led every aspect of the day, culminating in a message on women’s role in God’s mission. The programme highlighted gratitude, unity, and the importance of women in both church life and outreach.
