Teen Leaders at St Albans Church Hosts Multi-Industry Careers Fair
The Teen Leaders of St Albans Church, supported fully by their local church leadership and members, hosted a very successful Careers Fair this past Sunday.
Doors opened promptly at 12.00pm, and the young people — who came from St Albans, Watford, Luton, Knebworth and further afield — were able to visit 20 different stalls, manned by passionate professionals eager to inspire young minds by sharing pathways for their careers and challenging the teen attendees to think about their own choice of career.
Careers represented included surgeons, a barber/stylist, engineers, marketing, building surveyor, teachers, scientists, nurses, dental hygienists, tree surgeon, estate agent, clergy, music producers, video and film production — and six different types of accountants! The local fire department was also well represented.
The young people were able to ask questions, take part in hands-on demonstrations such as learning how to suture wounds and handling some very expensive equipment. They were given leaflets/flyers with additional information and free merchandise — all a reminder of their interaction.
This was an exciting undertaking and over 55 people were involved in the planning and delivery. Well done to the church members at St Albans, who can think outside the box – their worship area, as well as the downstairs hall, were converted to hold stalls.
The main intention of the Teen Leaders hosting a Careers Fair was to “open the eyes, hearts and minds of young people” to the different career possibilities that exist, thus encouraging them to dream BIG! The air was filled with excitement as young people moved from stall to stall, sometimes with their peers or with their parents, exploring the different options available to them.
There were three collective talks, where Careers Coach Jerry encouraged and motivated the teens to keep their options open, be intentional, and have a back-up plan.
The Teens Department collaborated with the Children’s Department of St Albans Church, who hosted a bake sale outside the building, selling freshly made homemade cakes, muffins and breads that were donated by church members. This was to raise funds for the children’s annual summer project — to create a professional music video for a song written by one of its local church members, which will feature the local children and earliteens.
This was a professionally hosted event that surpassed the expectations of both the Teen Leaders and participants. All glory, praise and honour must go to God for His love, guidance and provision of a beautifully inspiring day.
